Good Openers vs Pick Up Lines

When it comes to approaching a girl you have never met before, usually the first 2-3 minutes will determine whether you can pick up the girl or not. That’s why what you say first is very important in most cases.
In the pick up artist (pua) community the first part of the approach is called opening. It happens when you initiate a conversation. So the first thing you say is called opener. In the popular culture you’ve heard a lot about pick up lines as something to say to a woman you like. We think there is a difference between openers and pick up lines.

The conception that people have in mind about pick up lines sounds like “I’m gonna say this to her and she will be mine”. Usually the pick up lines are direct, some are sexual, some are witty strange compliments and other (in most cases stupid) line ups. They definitely indicate the guy’s interest.
We put the pick up lines as a subcategory of openers, they are just a different way to approach women, but it’s still opening, so they are openers. The fact is most of the time pick up lines do not work. So they are usually bad openers.

You want to pick up a girl with a pick up line, it’s not happening. Good openers have another goal. The goal of the opener is to start a conversation, it buys you the next minutes with the girl where you can build attraction. Men who use good pick up openers almost never get rejected by women during the approach.
